Schoolhouse Industrial Estate

This site is of historical interest in as much that the original school build thereon was erected and funded by the famous John ‘Paraffin’ Young and gifted to the people of Addiewell for education purposes.

In 1980 when the school fell into disrepair Westport Properties took it over and originally converted each classroom into a small industrial unit. However a disastrous fire in 1985 destroyed most of the original school under exception of the main dining/gym hall which itself was burned down in 2003.

After the 1988 fire the original four classroom derived units were replaced by seven modern units varying in size from 500 to 1000 sq. ft. each. These units all have high vehicle entry doors and three phase electricity and are ideal for new startup businesses. Similarly after the 2003 fire the opportunity was taken to totally upgrade that Unit which had been used for many years as a coachworks. It is now one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the County.
